Wind-Play was written for a young player and imagines the delight of flying a kite on a windy day. The 5-pulse rhythmic motif of the opening, heard clearly in the piano, suggests the strong tug and pull of a kite in the wind. The melodic line of the saxophone, derived from the suspended harmonies in the piano part, is evocative of the smooth line of a kite as it weaves through the air.
